David A. Merritt, 74, went to be with his Lord, June 3, 2011. He was the son of the late William and Ida Merritt. He was a retired owner and operator of D&D Auto of Newport News and M & K Auto Sales of Suffolk. He was preceded by his siblings, Ann, Lester and Frances.

Survivors include wife, Gloria A. Merritt of Suffolk; his daughter, Angel E. Duke and her boyfriend Keith Ricketts Jr. of Portsmouth; his son, David A. Merritt and his former wife Betty J. Merritt of Newport News; a brother, John Edward Merritt of Hookerton, N.C.; two grandchildren, Taylor Richard and Reagan Duke; a sister-in-law, Margaret Williamson of Suffolk; nieces and nephews, Rick and Kristy Williamson, Dennis and Laurie Williamson, Jerry and Kathy Williamson, Donna and Rick Thomas, B.J. and Katie; Uncle Sonny Cross of Suffolk, a special cousin, Yvonne Garris and her three girls, and a special friend, Joe Taylor.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at Meadowbrook Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Suffolk, with entombment to follow. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk, VA 23435.
